Basic Rules of How to Play Craps
The craps board consists of a layout on a felt surface which has numbers positioned in a variety of boxes. A craps table is run by four casino employees, two dealers, a boxman (who is in charge of dealers and guards the chips) and a stickman who is in charge of calling out the results of each roll, collecting the dice and managing the bets made in the center of the table. The most fundamental bet a player can make is to bet on the "pass line" which the majority of players make, generally novices. All players take turns rolling the dice, the player rolling the dice is referred to as a shooter. Dealers will usually ensure the shooter rolls the dice with one hand and that the dice bounce off the wall at the opposing end of the table, this requirement is to ensure that a shooter doesn't make a controlled shot. If the dice leaves the table another dice is normally substituted and the original die is handed to the boxman for inspection, this is to ensure that another set of dice isn't substituted for the casinos regulation dice, ie: a loaded dice.
The first roll a shooter makes is referred to as a "come-out roll", if the combination of the dice roll equals the number a player has wagered (placed on the "pass line") the player is paid-out by the dealer. All bets on the pass line are "one off bets", if your number doesn't come up on a roll, money placed on the pass line goes to the house. This is the most basic bet in the game of craps.
Another form of bet is for player to make a wager on the "Don't Come Bar", the numbers are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10, generally bets are placed by players after the first "come-out roll" and a "point" is established by the dealer, the dealer places a "puck" on that established point. Players can bet on any numbers on the "Don't Come" area, however returns are higher if placed on the "point", either way your bet stays on the "Don't Come" area until either your number is rolled (a win) or a seven is rolled in which all bets go to the house. Many players prefer to bet on the Don't Come Bar as they feel it has less house advantage.
